When you need something quick but still full of flavor, this pasta recipe is just the thing. The combination of savory tuna, salty capers, aromatic olives, and fruity tomato sauce brings a true Mediterranean feel to the plate. These rigatoni are simple, satisfying, and perfect for a quick lunch or dinner.

A real comfort dish for all pasta lovers.

Ingredients for 4 people

  • 320 g rigatoni
  • 1 white onion
  • 100 g olives
  • 50 g capers
  • 4 cans spicy tuna
  • 300 ml tomato puree
  • 1 chili pepper (to taste)
  • Fresh chives or parsley
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil

Preparation

1. Sauté the onions

Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a large pan. Sauté the finely chopped white onion until translucent. If you like a little more heat, add some finely chopped chili pepper as well.

2. Add olives and capers

As soon as the onions are lightly golden brown, add the olives and capers to the pan and sauté for a few minutes. This allows the Mediterranean flavors to develop intensely.

3. Prepare the sauce

Add the tomato puree and let the sauce simmer over medium heat for a few minutes until it becomes nicely aromatic.

4. Fold in the tuna

Shortly before the end of the cooking time, add the tuna and fold it in carefully. This keeps it juicy while allowing it to absorb the flavor of the sauce perfectly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

5. Cook the pasta

In the meantime, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the rigatoni al dente.

6. Combine everything

Drain the pasta and add it directly to the pan with the sauce. Toss well so that the pasta absorbs the sauce perfectly.

7. Serve with fresh herbs

Finally, add freshly chopped chives or parsley, toss briefly, and serve piping hot immediately.

Tip from Mahlzeit

For even more Mediterranean flavor, black Kalamata olives work particularly well. If you like, you can further refine the dish with a little lemon zest or freshly grated Parmesan.

Enjoy your meal!
